I took plan b one step 56 hours after sex. Will I not get pregnant?
I couldn't get plan b one step any sooner because I needed to take my insurance card from my moms wallet so I finally was able to do that today and I had to sneak out of the house to do it. Can I still get pregnant? & will plan b show up in my insurance card bill for my parents to see? Thanks in advance.
Let me explain breifly how plan B works. It works by preventing the fertilized egg from attaching successfully to the uterine wall, which would result in the start of a pregnancy. So whether or not the Plan B pill would have worked 56 hours later, would really just depend on your cycle, when you ovulated, etc. For instance, if you ovulated the day before sex, so the egg was already there, ready to be fertilized, you *might* be pushing it time-wise. 56 hours is enough time for the sperm to have fertilized the egg, and the egg to have attached to the wall of your uterus. Plan B will NOT terminate an existing pregnancy. So if that has already happened, the pill will have no effect what so ever. However, if you had sex on a certain day and then didn't ovulate until 2 days later or so, the egg might not have been fertilized yet, so the pill may have worked. Its really just a hit and a miss. That is why they say the chances of it working decreases the longer you wait, up to 72 hours. The sooner after sex you take it, the more likely it will work. Fertilization and attachment to the uterine wall doesn't happen just like that, it does take a little time, but there is still no time to waste. I hope that helped you understand how it works.
And about your insurance. It really just depends on your parents insurance. For instance, my husband and I have Tricare Prime, which is the military's insurance. We get statements sent to us EVERY TIME we go to the doctor, have a prescription filled, visit the hospital, etc. When I lived with my mother, we had blue cross and blue shielf, which also sent notices, but they weren't detailed. It may just say, "medical appointment--august 9th, 2011--25.00 copay" or something simple, and usually didn't say the names of any medications filled, just like "Wal-Mart Pharmacy--RX#678921--Total RX cost: $45.00, TP paid : $35.00, PT paid: $10.00" (I use to work in a pharmacy so sorry if I confuse you with the abbreviations and stuff, but RX is a script, and TP is the insurance company and PT is you lol) So again it just depends on their insurance. But more than likely they will get SOME kind of statement, even if it doesn't say exactly what services were provided or what medication was prescribed, so I would be prepared for that. If you are under the age of 18, legally they can call and find out with or without your permission. Like I said, I use to work in a pharmacy. All you have to have in order to find out a person's RX info is their name, date of birth, address, and phone number. And especially if she says "this is so-n-so's mother", they will tell her. Good luck and I hope I helped clear things up.
